Teaching representations is vital in mathematics instruction. The students will be guided in the creation and the use of many representations in order to organize thoughts and information, record data, and communicate ideas. The students will have the opportunities to participate in dramatizations, the use of manipulatives, diagrams, drawings, graphs and tables of all kinds, and symbols. Representations will be used to model mathematical situations, such as with tallies, number sentences, and models of geometric types.

In the teaching of Language Arts, the students are expected to demonstrate proper use of punctuation in writing. Punctuation is taught within the writing process, as well as in isolation by the teacher. The proper use of parenthesis, quotations, initials and abbreviations, apostrophes within contractions and possessives, colons, semicolons, and commas are taught throughout the elementary grades.

Chalk Talk: The Role of the High School Art Teacher

The High School Art Teacher is more of a facilitator of the artists’ talents. Usually by high school, the art students are gifted in their artwork in their own individual ways, and the high school teacher acknowledges those specific students’ abilities. Also teaching specific skills, the high school art teacher is there to guide the art students to be the best they can be. The art teacher is also very involved in community activities, such as those that highlight and showcase students’ artwork.
