Warwick District and Curriculum

The Warwick Public School District provides services for students across 24 different schools ranging from early childhood education to career and technical education at the secondary level. The district aspires to endow students with the skills they need to be literate, productive, and responsible adults in the 21st century. Proficiency is defined as mastering the Grade Span Expectations (GSEs) in the areas of Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Warwick also provides rigorous learning activities for students through the Accelerated Learning Activities Program (ALAP), delivering a diverse set of opportunities for the student population.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Warwick District Curriculum

The curriculum centers on core academic areas, focusing in on their major topics. In Language Arts, students are expected to learn reading comprehension, writing, listening and speaking strategies that they can use in all subjects. Math and Science are taught to be process and problem-solving competencies for students, developing advanced ability over the years. The skills expected are detailed as grade-level expectations and measured on statewide assessments.

The schools are committed to the development of technological skills for their students. As a result, the Technology Education Curriculum is aligned with the ISTE National Educational Technology Standards. In addition, the district is intent on helping raise healthy children who become healthy adults. The Health Curriculum for elementary students focuses on personal hygiene in the primary grades and builds to conflict resolution skills by fourth grade. High school students have performance indicators that address knowledge on health and nutrition.

Keeping Informed: Recent Warwick Educational News

  • Kids Choose To Be Healthy - The school district is going to great lengths to ensure that healthy habits are instilled in its students. As part of Warwick’s Healthy Schools Initiative, they have joined forces with the Rhode Island Foundation to offer free training to families with children who are at risk of becoming obese. The program provides six weeks of nutrition and fitness education.
  • Community Resource Guide - Everyone in the community has access to continuing education in areas they need. The Community Resource Guide provides information and resources on topics ranging from adult education to financial assistance.
  • The Parent Community Advisory Committee - Schools have the potential to be the cornerstone of the community. The Parent Community Advisory Committee, PCAC, allows the school district and invested community members to work together in creating the best opportunity for its young people.
