Worland District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The Washakie County School District follows Wyoming Content and Performance Standards to guide the instructional process. The curriculum is based on Common Core Standards which were developed as a nationwide effort to standardize and provide rigor to English Language Arts and Math, and serves as a framework for other subject areas. The curriculum’s goal is to provide educators with clear targets to learning that encompass the types of skills and knowledge within the major topics of each subject. The style of learning is progressive so that students build continually and both deepen and broaden their knowledge each year.

We currently cover the following Worland-area school district: Washakie County School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Worland District Curriculum

The Math curriculum starts with the fundamentals of numbers, operations, shapes and patterns but quickly moves students to algebraic thinking, measurement and data, and fractions and base ten operations. In high school, geometry skills that students are expected to master include expressing geometric properties with equations, measurement of dimensions, and modeling geometric principles.

The Career & Vocational Education Content Standards cover expectations that students should meet for post-secondary success. They cover areas such as Creativity & Innovation, Communication & Collaboration, Research and Information Understanding, Digital Citizenship, Technological Literacy and broad critical thinking goals. The concept is that through projects and hands-on learning opportunities, students will be introduced to all these concepts and be prepared to enter college and career with the ability to adapt to changing technologies and innovative opportunities.

Chalk Talk: What Assessments Will My Child Take?

Students in Wyoming schools face a number of statewide assessments in reading, writing, math and science during their elementary through high school years. The assessments given during the elementary years are summative in nature and designed to assess what students have learned and provide a snapshot of the individual student, or whole class, for educators to help plan their educational progress. In high school, students are tested in these same subjects but the picture given is that of achievement and preparedness for college and career. Students also have end of year exams which provide a picture of achievement in each subject to help determine final grades. Additionally, students will take the ACT or SAT if they are applying to college and each measures college readiness in the same core subjects and help colleges determine the level at which a student is likely to succeed in college academics.
