Longview District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs
The Longview School District curriculum follows the Washington State Standards for all core subjects in grades K-12. The district will begin to implement the new Common Core State Standards in the next school year. The Standards establish grade-level expectations which follow a set of strands from kindergarten to twelfth grade. This allows students to build on foundational and critical thinking skills that will make them successful in either career or college. The standards compound in a logical way that fosters students learning and self-confidence.
Students in elementary grades learn fundamental skills to ensure their success in middle school, high school and beyond. Students begin in kindergarten with basic number and letter skills and develop these until they are ready to leave elementary school. At this time, students develop the ability and skills to read for enjoyment and information, write a correctly constructed paragraph, and use critical thinking.
We currently cover the following Longview-area school districts: Longview School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Longview District Curriculum
In middle school and high school, students expand their reading and writing skills to analytic essays and research reports, and are able to analytically dissect a literary novel. All students in the district are required to take freshman and sophomore composition, Algebra 1 and Geometry, and Biology in order to meet the graduation requirements of the district.
Students are able to access learning resources through their schools to support their independent goals and needs. The curriculum provides for character development education, arts education, technology education, and many other possibilities that can help students begin to connect knowledge to its applications. Students will have chances to learn collaboratively and to see their contributions to group projects. Beyond core academics, the experiential learning that students participate in is a strong counterpart to academic knowledge.
