Students build knowledge based on what they experience in their everyday lives and experience in the world around them. We should include those learning experiences in instruction and allow for students to explore new avenues of intellectual desire.
I am currently finishing up my educational program at Bowling Green State University. I have worked with students in tutoring settings such as TRiO, which was tutoring at risk college students. I have also worked with America Reads, which is a government funded literacy program in elementary schools. The focus is on literacy skills.
I have done around 120 hours of classroom service, prior to student teaching and methods, in primarily, 4th and 6th grade classrooms. My methods and student teaching placement was with a 7th grade social studies and 8th grade science classroom.
In high school I was very involved with band. I played in my high schools concert band, wind ensemble, full orchestra and jazz band. I was also in the marching band. I did one year of marching band in college as well. In college I played on a rec co-ed soccer team, which was a great experience.
