Hoquiam District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs
Students in the elementary grades study the fundamentals of reading, writing, math and science. Students start in kindergarten learning sounds of letters, phonetics, about the world around them, counting, and basic number sense. They build on these skills until they reach sixth grade, at which time they are ready to apply the fundamental skills learned to all core subjects. Content-based science begins in second grade, where they learn about scientific inquiry and aspects of both life and physical science through hands-on learning experiences.
We currently cover the following Hoquiam-area school districts: Hoquiam School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Hoquiam District Curriculum
Middle school and high school curriculum is differentiated, and students are able to choose classes based on their interest and skill level. Middle school students have the opportunity to take strategic math, grade level math, algebra or geometry. They are also able to choose strategic, grade level or advanced English. The same structure is available with the high school curriculum in the district, with the addition of electives in the upper grades.
The curriculum is designed so that all students receive the same high quality standards for learning. Teachers may use different instructional approaches and design different assignments that assess students knowledge and ability. The formal assessments that students take are aligned to the state standards and serve as a measure of proficiency. They also provide a picture of how whole grades are succeeding in meeting the standards. This information is used to improve instructional practices and ensures that students are able to master their subjects.
