The whole high school is made up of 3 smaller high schools, and each has their own field of study. The three high schools are Biotechnology Research & Zoological Research, Aerospace / Hydrospace Engineering & Physical Sciences, and Information Technology & Software Engineering. Fairchild Wheeler High School students also have the opportunity to participate in 26 different courses for which they can receive college credit. These courses are available to students from all 3 of the smaller high schools. Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Bridgeport District Curriculum

For mathematics, the concept of CCSS promotes the importance of well-developed number sense and problem solving skills. In place of rote and drill practice, students learn how to analyze numbers and apply a variety of strategies to help them build a strong understanding of mathematics and ultimately, connect it back to their daily lives. Upon completion of High School, the expectation is that students will have developed critical thinking skills that can be applied to their everyday lives. The city of Bridgeport is located in Fairfield County at the start of the Pequonnock River on Long Island Sound, 60 miles from Manhattan and 40 miles from the Bronx. Historically, Brideport has been a seaport city. In 1860, Abraham Lincoln spoke in the city’s Washington Hall at the old Bridgeport CIty Hall. His speech was on the topic of being against slavery, and it was so popular that a cheering crowd followed Lincoln all the way back to the train station, according to a local paper. In 1870-1910, Bridgeport was the major industrial center of Connecticut.

Beardsley Zoo

The Beardsley Zoo was opened in 1922 and houses about 305 animals representing about 110 species. The animals at the zoo are divided into then major exhibits: the rainforest building, predators, alligator alley, hoofstock trail, New England Farmyard, W.O.L.F, Native Repile House, Professor Beardsley’s Research Station, Pampas Plains, and the Natt Family Red Panda Habitat. The Rainforest building is the home to animals from tropical South America, such as the black howler, Brazilian Agouti, Amazon Milk Frog and more. The Natt Family Red Panda Habitat is the home of the zoo’s two red pandas, and includes space for them to roam and play, as well as two new viewing areas. In addition to exhibiting animals, the Beardsley Zoo also takes part in conservation programs to care for and breed endangered species. Some of these species were bred and then reintroduced back into the wild by the zoo are Andean Condors, red wolves, and golden lion tamarins.

Seaside Park

Bridgeport’s Seaside Park borders Bridgeport Harbor, Long Island Sound, and Black Rock Harbor. It is 2.5 miles long and is contained within Bridgeport’s South End Neighborhood. There’s much to see and do at the part. Visitors will enjoy the park’s lush lawns, shady trees, and sport fields, as well as the beaches and sparkling coastline. Located at the Western End of the Park is Fayerweather Island, which can be accessed by crossing the breakwater rocks. Seaside Park also has a long history for being a concert venue. Every year since 2007, the park has been the home to Gathering of the Vibes, which is a four-day music, camping and arts festival that celebrates the Grateful Dead.
