Chalk Talk: How to Help Your Child with School Projects
School projects can be overwhelming, but they are a valuable part of the learning process. They teach students self-discipline, time management, and independence. How much help you need to give your student depends on the project, individual needs, and maturity level. First, read through the project and talk about it with your child. Let him or her make all the decisions. Next, create a list of steps that need to be completed and make a timeline to accompany it. If any supplies are needed, help make a list and take him or her to the store to buy them. Lastly, let your child be responsible for as much of the project as he or she is capable of. Do not do the work, but offer lots of praise for the work he or she does independently.
