The curriculum in the Matawan-Aberdeen Regional School District is developed according to the guidelines set forth in the Common Core State Standards and the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards. Together, these documents establish a framework for student learning from preschool through to the 12th grade. Standards are in place for math, language arts, social studies, science, 21st Century life and careers, visual and performing arts, health and physical education, technology and world languages.
The district has developed a curriculum for health and physical education that fosters the emotional, physical and social development of its students. The elementary school curriculum focuses on wellness and what it means to take good care of one’s self. Students identify self-care practices that support their wellness, like washing hands, brushing teeth and covering one’s mouth when sneezing or coughing. The middle school curriculum helps students understand the many changes associated with adolescence, from physical development to mood changes.

The designation is based on the state’s evaluation of the district’s instructional programs, personnel, and various other criteria.
- Academy Eases Freshmen into High School - Students entering the 9th grade at Matawan Regional High School will be part of the Freshman Academy. The program is a school-within-a-school that gives freshmen more individualized instruction as well as tools for academic and personal growth.
- Business Academy Offered - Students at Matawan Regional High School interested in studying business in college can apply to participate in the school’s Business Academy. The focus of the academy is on honing business-related skills such as problem-solving, management and marketing.
