Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Cheverly District Curriculum

By the end of elementary school, students are expected to read grade level material with fluency while comprehending the plot of the story as well. Students also spend time working with words to discover the many spelling patterns of the English language as well as composing pieces of writing for different audiences. Teachers will also have students work with the vocabulary found in the book as well as look at the author’s word choice and how it relates to the theme. Once students have completed a novel, they typically will have to do some sort of culminating project that might include an essay.

Chalk Talk: The Value of District Websites

All school districts now have a website to help promote better communication between the district, families and students. The websites, often, are also a valuable resource to be tapped into throughout the year and for different reasons. There is also schedule information about upcoming events from sports to assessments, but there is also information about different programs and courses available to students. Some websites also highlight community partners, which helps others in the community see ways in which the district can be helped. School districts also offer resources for understanding which site or portal may be most beneficial or appropriate for you and your child, at the school level they may be at. Make that one email or attend that one open house to get all the information you need for the whole school year. Look on the school district website for resources in learning how to set it up or how to use it based on your needs.
