Cheverly District and Curriculum
The Prince George’s County Public Schools provides a comprehensive academic experience designed to also engage student learning by providing interesting and relevant courses. Students learn strong procedural skills within the Common Core Initiative and apply these skills toward later assessment and real world applications. Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Cheverly District Curriculum
By the end of elementary school, students are expected to read grade level material with fluency while comprehending the plot of the story as well. Students also spend time working with words to discover the many spelling patterns of the English language as well as composing pieces of writing for different audiences. Teachers will also have students work with the vocabulary found in the book as well as look at the author’s word choice and how it relates to the theme. Once students have completed a novel, they typically will have to do some sort of culminating project that might include an essay.
In math, by high school students have the basis to work with complex equations within areas of study like Algebra and Trigonometry. Incoming high school students are expected to learn what will become the foundation of their high school math education through problem solving skills and by building on the basic concepts that they have already learned.
