EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I believe that it is important to provide a highly effective learning environment. I strive to make even the most learning-challenged kids take away something from the instruction they are given. I also think it’s important to remember that it’s not just about the subject matter, but also about life and building relationships.
My hope is to instill a life-long love of learning in the students I work with. I think a sense of humor goes a long way in helping to establish a good working relationship with a student.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I am half way through a master’s degree in American History through American Public University. I already have a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Project Management from the University of Phoenix, as well as an associate’s degree in Computer Information Systems. I have also gained certification to teach English as a second language.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I taught high school earth science for one semester in 2012. I also taught world history for one semester in 2009 as part of my student teaching assignment. I have been a volunteer teacher of English to mainly Hispanic adult learners for a couple of years. As part of my TEFL certification, I completed several teaching practicums in Mexico.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
In my spare time I like to study Spanish and practice my Spanish-speaking skills. I play the guitar and cook as well. I also enjoy hiking and being outdoors.
