EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

I believe that it is important to make personal connections with my students in order to build a mentor relationship. Not only do I want to help students in the areas they are struggling with, I also want to help them learn successful study and work habits. I believe that teaching students goes beyond helping them learn HOW to solve problems, but also helping them recognize WHY things are the way they are and the meaning behind the math.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

I graduated from Satellite High School in Satellite Beach, FL in 2007. I received the Brevard County Future Educators of America Scholarship along with Florida Bright Futures. I am currently in my last year at USF studying Secondary Mathematics Education and will begin my final internship in the Spring of 2014.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been a private tutor for more than 10 years. I have taught all students ranging from the elementary level to college level in mathematics. I was a substitute teacher for a year in Hillsborough County. I am an active member of the Sun Coast Area Teacher Training program and attend at least 3 workshops every semester to stay updated with new educational strategies. I am currently a tutor at a facility in Tampa and an Academic Coach for struggling students in the surrounding private schools. Starting this Fall semester I will be doing my part time teaching practicum which will lead into my full time internship in the Spring.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

I am an active member in the Circle K college Kiwanis club and volunteer in the surrounding Tampa areas. I am also a member of the USF SCUBA club and go diving once a month with the “Keep Tampa Beautiful” foundation to clean debris out of our waters. I enjoy rescuing animals and I currently have a cat, turtle, crab, fish, and python.
