We currently cover the following Belleview-area school district: Marion County Public Schools.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Belleview District Curriculum

In mathematics courses, students begin by learning how to use abstract reasoning and appropriate tools, if applicable. More advanced courses will focus on specific topics in math, such as algebra, geometry, and statistics. All of these courses build upon previously learned knowledge to establish a comprehensive mathematical background.

Students also learn about the world around them in social studies classes. American History, government, economics, and geography are some of the topics that are given importance. Hands-on experiences that incorporate role-play and reflection allow students to build a wealth of knowledge. Many social studies classes look at the role of humans and their effects on the past, present, and future as well. Students also have the chance to expand their awareness of foreign cultures through the many foreign language classes available at Marion County Public Schools. Courses in French, Japanese, Spanish, German, and other languages are provided.

Chalk Talk: Buying School Supplies for High School

The school year is about to start and it’s time to go shopping for supplies. The list of items that you want may be longer than the items you need. It’s a good idea to buy the basics and build up your stash as the year goes along. For example, since many high school students prefer writing with pens, black and/or blue pens should be on everyone’s list. You may also want to buy red ink pens in case you are required to do peer editing in class. Although you can buy erasable pens, it’s probably a good idea to have pencils available as well, particularly for math classes or any course where you may write a fair amount and need to erase mistakes. Many math and/or science teachers now require students to buy calculators that have graphing functions. These calculators can be very expensive, so you should make sure you find out if there is a certain model that the teacher wants you to get.
