EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
Education means enlarging their world and giving them the tools to participate in it more effectively. It nurtures minds that can think independently and creatively. At its best, education lights the spark of curiosity into the blaze of wanting to know much more.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
My liberal arts background began in Boston until I received my B.A. and moved to Philadelphia where I earned an M.A. in English language and literature. Much later, I earned a post-graduate degree in Special Education at the Hornsby International School for Dyslexia. I have also re-certified, following a 3-credit professional development course in Differentiated Reading Instruction.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have mainly taught at the middle school level both in the U.S and in the U.K., but have also taught GCSE and A level high school courses in the U.K. I have also tutored at the college level both for U.S. and U.K. institutions. Currently, I am tutoring at all levels for local agencies and teaching ESL at all levels online for a Chinese agency.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I have run the bookstore and book club for secondary schools I worked for. I’ve also been responsible for organizing the annual Spelling Bee competitions. I’ve helped in the school drama production, run a guitar club, and chaperoned on school outings.
