EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I believe that a teacher is more like a coach of the classroom. While some skill practice is necessary, I also believe that application practice is needed in order for understanding to take place.
I also think that content needs to be applied to real life situations as much as possible to help motivate students to learn the subject. I think it is important to apply the content to specific interests of the students whenever possible, again, to aid in motivation.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I went to Penn State University where I majored in Mathematics. My goal has been to become a math teacher at either the high school or middle school level. This lead my to attending California University of Pennsylvania for graduate school where I earned my Master of Arts in Education.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I completed my student teaching where I taught seventh grade math. After graduating, I worked as a long term substitute at a local high school. While there, I took over three classes: two Algebra 1 classes and one Algebra 2 class.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Throughout high school and undergraduate studies I ran track. During the last school year I was an assistant track coach for Norwin’s Middle School Track Team. I am also involved in Relay for Life of Norwin where I am in charge of the activities and entertainment for the event.
