Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Lakeway District Curriculum
Lake Travis Independent School District include biology in their study of science. Through this study students become familiar with living systems. As with other sciences, students begin by discovering the basic characteristics of living being and then becoming more specific as they progress through the grades. By the time they graduate, the students become so familiar with the human body that they are able to design a project that takes the students on a tour through the human body. By teaching students science, students learn to look at the details of a topic, in order to convey truthful and detailed information.
The English curriculum at Lake Travis Independent School District include using reading and writing to increase the students’ skills in each area. The first few years, the English curriculum focuses on teaching the students to read and write, then the educators begin to reading and writing to help students learn in other subject areas. They are taught how to research a topic to find facts to support what they are studying. Through this area of study, students learn how to find information needed as they enter the world of college or future employment.

Keeping Informed: Recent Lakeway Educational News
- CAVS in Service - CAVS in Service is an organization that helps students to find ways to help out their community. Through this group students commit to a certain number of community service hours per school year. Then as they begin to look for opportunities, the leaders of this group assist by finding service opportunities that fall under the students goals for their community.
- Book Club - The Book Club is open to any student that enjoys the written word and want to have the opportunity to discuss books with others. Students participate in meeting by reading books, either of their own choosing or based on a book that the group desires to read together. Members are welcome to attend field trips where they have the opportunity to meet authors.
- National Honor Society - The National Honor Society is for students that exhibit high levels of academics, leadership, service and character. Once a student decides to join, their application is reviewed by a group of faculty members. Once they are inducted, the students are expected to maintain these characteristics while taking part in at least 10 community service hours per year.

Parents can also share with the child what to expect in the new school. How it may be similar or different from the school they came from. Most of all, parents need to keep the doors of communication open to see if there are other ways they can help.
