Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Clute District Curriculum
Geography is a section of the Social Studies curriculum. At Brazosport Independent School District, this subject is approached in a way that helps the students in their entire lives. They learn that whether from paper maps or to GPS systems, the students learn the foundation for using these tools through this class. They study the development of dams, transportation systems, tunnels, and other man-made structures that change the environment. An examination of how these structures negatively impact the environment is undertaken as well. They also discover how different cultures throughout the world work together.
The English curriculum at Brazosport Independent School District Schools includes the study of literary classics. To begin with this subject, students learn how to read from classroom books and the students’ own books. They then see how to analyze these books as they look for the characteristics that make a book stand out. When they are in high school, they are then able to take complete works, such as Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet or his sonnets, and discover the figurative language, or examine them from the viewpoint that the author wanted to write to. Students are able to use the tools to write in a way that their audience can appreciate.

Chalk Talk: Talking So A Teen-Ager Will Listen
When talking with a teen-ager, parents cannot always be sure that they are being heard. When the teen ignores a parent it is one way that they can have power in their lives. So when talking parents will benefit by remembering what the goal is for the conversation, then state it in a way that the teen understands. It also helps if a parent does not take the ignoring or yelling personally. Remember this is their way of obtaining power in this area. Do not become irate. Instead, keep calm and ate the facts again. If the temptation is there to yell, leave the room. Finally, when discussing rules, do not get involved talking about fairness. The teen can then try to turn the rules to their advantage. Just stick with the rules and let them know it is their job to follow them.
