Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Pleasanton District Curriculum
Mathematics is also a part of the curriculum at Pleasanton Independent School District. The high school curriculum provides objectives for Algebra, Geometry, Precalculus, Advanced Quantitative Reasoning, Discrete Math and Statistics. Again, Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses are available to students seeking a rigorous math education. General goals of the math curriculum for all students include the ability to look at a problem and be able to determine the best way to solve it, attention to precision, and the ability to communicate mathematical thinking.
Pleasanton Independent School District include various areas of science in their curriculum, including biology, chemistry, physics, earth and space science, and environmental systems. There are also Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate curricular guidelines for the topic specific courses at high school and which are recommended for students who plan to study science, math, or engineering in college. All science courses introduce students to the process of scientific inquiry, how hypotheses are formed and tested, and how to present scientific results.

This is the way that many educators communicate with the families, however, finding the time to work on the site can be difficult for many teachers. If this is something that interests a parent, they should present their idea to the teacher. Another way to give is to share with the class a skill. Perhaps a parent likes working with plants, so they may help with a classroom garden or perhaps they can use a parent's skill will posting classwork or assembling a bulletin board. Any of these areas, and more, are ways that a parent can help the teacher with a skill, or time, while showing a child that the parent see education as important.
