Understanding
Provincial Assessments
British Columbia’s education system requires that all students take province wide assessments in grades 4, 7, 10, and 12. In grades 4 and 7, students’ literacy and numeracy skills are evaluated in the Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA). These skills are evaluated further as a graduation requirement in the form of Graduation Assessments. Numeracy and literacy skills are evaluated again in grade 10, with literacy being tested for a final time in grade 12.
