Understanding
the M-STEP and MME
Michigan state testing begins in 3rd grade. From 3rd-7th grade, students complete summative M-STEP tests. Students are tested annually in ELA and Mathematics along with Science and Social Studies tests in 5th grade. In 8th grade, students complete the PSAT 8/9 in ELA and Mathematics, as well as M-STEP tests in Social Studies and Science. Once in high school, 9th and 10th grade students continue to take yearly PSAT tests. Finally, 11th grade students must complete the MME, which comprises the SAT with Essay, ACT WorkKeys, and M-STEP tests in Science and Social Studies. For more information on M-STEP and MME testing you can visit the Michigan Department of Education website.
