Get Your Child Ready for the RICAS

SchoolTutoring Academy’s RICAS Tutoring Programs start with an ACADEMIC ASSESSMENT with an Academic Director. This assessment informs your child’s RICAS tutor about their abilities, strengths, and weaknesses so the tutoring program can be tailored to their specific needs. Our RICAS Tutoring Program includes regular one-on-one tutoring, academic mentorship, bi-monthly progress reports, learning profiles, and parental conference calls.

Understanding
the RICAS

The Rhode Island Comprehensive Assessment System for state testing begins in 3rd grade. Elementary testing in English Language Arts and Mathematics occurs yearly from 3rd to 8th grade. Students also take the Next Generation Science Assessment (NGSA) in 5th and 8th grade. Once in high school, students take the PAST in 10th grade and then the SAT in 11th grade as a graduation requirement. The NGSA is also administered again in 11th grade. Students with severe cognitive disabilities may take the Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) Alternate Assessments. For more information on the RICAS you can visit the State of Rhode Island Department of Education website.
