A teacher’s primary purpose is to provide basic concepts and encourage students to build on them. Students need an environment that is emotionally and intellectually safe. Students retain concepts best when they work to construct them rather having a teacher be the source of all knowledge.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in music education and post baccalaureate work in mathematics. I have taken several math courses including Algebra, Geometry and Calculus.
I was a high/ middle school music teacher for 15 years and have taught at the Cobb County Performance Learning Center for academically at-risk students trying to graduate high school. I currently teach Coordinate Algebra 1 and Analytic Geometry at a local high school.
I arrange music for various ensembles including church groups, brass quintets, woodwind quintets, concert/jazz/symphonic band. I enjoy playing the tuba and giving music lesson. I like building small pieces of furniture and cabinetry.
