EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

I believe that all students deserve a highly effective and enjoyable educational experience. Along with being crucial to the success of each person as an individual (with both one’s personal and career life, increasingly so), learning is one of the great joys of life. Curiosity and passion for knowledge binds us all.

Although not all students start off as enthusiastic about learning, it is the educator’s job to spark interest and enjoyment in all learners. Although some find certain subjects difficult to master, it is the educator’s job to help students master any subject they choose!

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

I have a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York. Completion of the program required a thesis in Literature as well as field research in Education. I have current New Hampshire Experienced Educator Certification in English Education (grades 5-12). I have a B.A. in English from Penn State University.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am a certified high school teacher with ten years’ experience in the field. I also have years of experience as a speech and debate coach.
As a high school teacher in New Hampshire, I instructed core and elective English courses for all grades 9th-12th and all levels (Honors, Extension, and Foundation) including English 4 (British Literature), English 3 (American Literature), English 2 (World Literature), Speech, Mythology, and Freshmen Writing.

I oversaw ELL, Special Education, and gifted students. I modified existing courses for Independent Study for credit for students requiring flexible options, including online Independent Study.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

I was Co-Founder/Developer and Coach of Debate and Speech Team at Nashua High School North and South (2008 – 2012). We won the Yale Invitational Debate Tournament – Policy Debate (2011). As a student myself, I was a graphic designer for our university newspaper, a member of National Honor Society, a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist (Regional Award), a member of State College Thespians, an actor in No Refund Theatre (Penn State), and a member of Chorus.

STANDARDIZED TEST RESULTS

I received a score in the 99th percentile on my GRE Verbal test. I also receive a perfect score of the GRE Analytical Writing test.
