About Me

SUBJECTS

EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

I’m a student-centered teacher who always aims to encourage and empower students to do their best. I’m also incredibly organized and put systems in place for students to achieve their goals. I encourage deep critical thinking but also work on the necessary skill-building that students struggle with. As a former child immigrant myself, I am sensitive to the needs of ESL learners.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

I am currently pursuing my MFA at Columbia University, where I also received my MA in Teaching in 2008. Prior to this, I attended Bard College on a scholarship and majored in History with a minor in English and Literature.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been an AP US History teacher for several years. I have also taught special education courses in social studies at a high school in Brooklyn where we were required to improve the students’ literacy skills. In addition to this, I taught middle school global studies and have also worked as an adjunct professor at Hunter College’s Graduate School for Education.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

I am a musician in my spare time as well (I play the violin). I also am a free lance writer for OnEarth Magazine and am working on a novel. I have volunteered on community building teams where we planted daffodils along the road ways in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. I also travel to Europe in the summer where I spend time with family that lives there.
