EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
Education is most effective when learning is student oriented and where individual differences, learning styles and challenges are recognized. A partnership with parents/guardians is extremely valuable and should be encouraged with regular correspondence. Educators must motivate, reward effort, and set high but reasonable expectations while making learning enjoyable and relevant.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I received my Bachelor’s of Arts Degree from Carleton University in Political Science. I then received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from York University. I am an Ontario Certified teacher.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have been a full time secondary school teacher for over 15 years. I have clear expectations and instruction. Instruction and evaluation must be varied to ensure all types of learning is facilitated. I encourage students to be self-directed but always maintain the necessary support required for their success.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I enjoy sports such as long distance running and soccer. Keeping abreast of social, environmental and political issues helps me stay current when teaching. When reading, I prefer Canadian themes: sport, current issues and especially biographies. I also enjoy watching various genres of films, both foreign and domestic but primarily documentaries.
