About Me
EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I am excited about the opportunity to combine my love of learning and my teaching expertise with my new-found love of ESL teaching. As a teacher my goal is to be supportive and kind while guiding my students towards their own unique English learning goals.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (4.0 GPA) and a Master’s degree in Educational Technology (4.0), as well as, a Graduate Certificate in Online Teaching for Adult Learners (4.0). Prior to these accomplishments, I completed the Train the Trainer Certificate program (4.0) at the Vancouver Community College. I am currently completing my TESOL certification as well.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
The bulk of the courses I have designed and taught have been asynchronous, online courses presented on Moodle, Brainhoney or similar LMS. Because I believe in a learner-centered approach, my focus is always on providing a learning experience in which students can apply the new knowledge they are acquiring in a meaningful way to their own lives. Through the use of discussion boards, email, and other platforms learners in my courses are able to interact with me directly for additional help and support as needed.
When interacting with my students in real-time I pride myself on supporting and guiding them in a gentle way that gives them the confidence to move to the next level. I always tailor my support to the unique needs of the student in the moment.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
In the winter I enjoy downhill and cross-country skiing and in the summer I like to paddle board and go camping with my family. I also enjoy reading and gardening.
