Get Your Child Ready for the AK STAR
SchoolTutoring Academy’s AK STAR Tutoring Programs start with an ACADEMIC ASSESSMENT with an Academic Director. This assessment informs your child’s AK STAR tutor about their abilities, strengths, and weaknesses so the tutoring program can be tailored to their specific needs. Our AK STAR Tutoring Program includes regular one-on-one tutoring, academic mentorship, bi-monthly progress reports, learning profiles, and parental conference calls.

Understanding
the AK STAR
Alaska state testing begins in 3rd grade as part of the Akaska System of Academic Readiness. From 3rd-8th grade, students complete tests annually in ELA and Mathematics. Additionally, 5th and 8th grade students take the Alaska Science Assessment. Once in high school, students must complete a final AK STAR assessment in ELA and Mathematics test in 9th grade, in addition to a final Alaska Science Assessment in 10th grade. Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) assessments also exist for students with severe cognitive disabilities. For more information on the AK STAR you can visit the Alaska Department of Elementary and Early Development website.
