Effective SBA Test Prep
for Hawaii Students

Understanding
the SBA
Hawaii state testing begins in 3rd grade. Elementary testing in English Language Arts and Mathematics occurs yearly from 3rd to 8th grade via the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA). Students also take the Hawaii State Assessment in Science (HSA-Science) in 5th and 8th grade. Once in high school, students gain take the HSA-Science as an End of Course Exam for Biology.
