Understanding
the TCAP and the End-of-Course Assessment
Tennessee state testing begins in 3rd grade. From 3rd-8th grade, students complete annual TCAPs in ELA, Science, Social Studies and Mathematics. The test is administered every Spring. From grades 9th to 12th students have assessments when they complete some courses called End-of-Course assessments that test what they learned. English I, English II, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Integrated Math I, Integrated Math II, Integrated Math III, U.S. History and Geography, and Biology. As part of the Tennessee testing system, students in Grade 11th are required to take the ACT to graduate.
