Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Aliso Viejo District Curriculum

In Language Arts, the focus is on reading literary and informational texts, using a writing process and writing for different purposes, and communicating with critical thinking skills. All core subjects aid in students ability to learn other more complex subject matter.

The Common Core Standards is the curriculum that provides this framework because it offers a standards-based approach. The standards for learning are the skill sets within each subject. For other subjects and programs, similarly structured standards-based frameworks are used. These also describe what it is that students are expected to learn and teachers can plan their objectives and assessments with this.
