Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Anaheim District Curriculum

The curriculum used in Anaheim covers all the subjects and describes the essential skills and knowledge that students are expected to learn each year. The general areas of learning - like algebra or geometry in math or writing and speaking in Language Arts - are comprised of a range of sub-skills and the curriculum describes those. This is used to plan instruction and assessment and ensures that they are aligned.

The curriculum are designed so that each year student knowledge expands. By doing this, students will develop critical thinking and deepen problem-solving and reasoning skills. When students enter into more specialized programs like Advanced Placement or a Technology-oriented program, for example, the curriculum describes what students are expected to learn and these skills prepare students for their future academic and career goals.
