Anderson District and Curriculum

In Anderson, the California Content Standards provide frameworks for each subject. They are modeled on the Common Core Standards which have become a widely adopted framework because of its effectiveness in stating clear objectives and providing tools to measure student proficiency at each grade level.

In Language Arts, students are expected to learn strategies for decoding and understanding texts, strategies to understand new words, and to analyze the information presented in literature and informational texts. The writing expectations require that students write for a variety of purposes such as creative and personal, or expository and persuasive. Students are expected to learn how to edit and revise their work, and often this is accomplished through sharing written work with peers for feedback.

We currently cover the following Anderson-area school district: Anderson Union High School District, Cascade Union Elementary School District, Happy Valley Union Elementary School District, Pacheco Union School District.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Anderson District Curriculum

In Math, students are taught very specific skills in their math classes that build computational, data analysis, and problem-solving skills in all areas of math. In high school, the classes take a more specific focus in Algebra, Geometry, or Pre-Calculus. The anticipated outcomes are that students can use measurement tools with precision, formulate mathematic models that support reasoned conclusions, and apply these thinking skills to technological and real-world challenges.

The courses that students take are also integrated with goals in character education through community service and increasing local and global awareness. Students are offered diverse opportunities for learning through the extracurriculars at the schools or through school-community partnerships. These opportunities allow students the chance to show what they know and can do in real-world settings.
