  • SCS High Schools Ranked Among America’s Best - Shelby County high schools ranked among the best in the nation, and two were on the list of “Top Performing” public high schools in the U.S., ranking seventh and ninth in Tennessee. When school districts have top performing high schools, it generally means they had a quality foundation throughout their education, and that the students who graduate from these schools are considered ready for college and careers. These rankings use criteria such as college readiness, AP course offerings, performance on SAT/ACT, and college acceptance rates to distinguish schools in these rankings.
  • E.E. Jeter Elementary Named a National Blue Ribbon School - The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program looks for schools striving for the highest level of achievement. E.E. Jeter Elementary School received this honor, only one of six in the state of Tennessee’s 14,000 schools. This is a high honor that displays the school’s dedication to helping all children realize their full potential. When schools excel in teaching their elementary students, then the students generally perform well, and this raises the bar for all schools in the district.
  • Award-Winning ESL Summer Camp - Shelby County Schools offer a summer camp every year, earning the state’s Excellence in Education Award several times. Schools and libraries get involved in this camp, providing hands-on activities. These activities include learning about animal habitats, weather, space, and creating books while practicing language skills. Children have a chance to show their work at the end of the camp week, so that parents can see their exhibits at a fun celebration. Opportunities like this help children to succeed in school, while giving them engaging and meaningful skills.
