Bartlett, Tennessee and Shelby County School District are adopting all of the Common Core national standards, focusing on the English Language Arts and Mathematics standards in the foundation level grades first. This adoption phase has been using technology to teach more rigorous and complex levels of subject content through all grades. - E.E. Jeter Elementary Named a National Blue Ribbon School - The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program looks for schools striving for the highest level of achievement. E.E. Jeter Elementary School received this honor, only one of six in the state of Tennessee’s 14,000 schools. This is a high honor that displays the school’s dedication to helping all children realize their full potential. When schools excel in teaching their elementary students, then the students generally perform well, and this raises the bar for all schools in the district.
- Award-Winning ESL Summer Camp - Shelby County Schools offer a summer camp every year, earning the state’s Excellence in Education Award several times. Schools and libraries get involved in this camp, providing hands-on activities. These activities include learning about animal habitats, weather, space, and creating books while practicing language skills. Children have a chance to show their work at the end of the camp week, so that parents can see their exhibits at a fun celebration. Start talking about the college decision before Spring of your child’s senior year of high school. By junior year, most high school kids have an idea of what they’re good at and what they’d like to do for a career. Make a list of criteria that’s important for your college choices. These can include geographic location, tuition cost, academic reputation, and extracurricular activities. It is a big decision to tackle and kids need all the support they can get!
