The elementary level math curriculum in Brainerd seeks to help students develop a strong foundation of mathematical skills. Students develop an understanding of basic math procedures, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Learners also acquire the ability to estimate sums and differences of up to 100. Learners work with whole numbers, including those with up to two digits, and learn how to add and subtract them with proficiency. Number patterns are learned as well. Students learn how to create number sequences that skip an equal number, such as 2, 4, 6, and 8.
Brainerd’s arts curriculum introduces learners to concepts related to theatre and theatre production. Students engage in devising scripts for plays. This includes developing characters, settings, and stage designs to make the production a cohesive whole. Students take part in critiques of one another’s work in order to build the capacity to take constructive criticism and use it to make a script better.
