Carlsbad District and Curriculum
The schools in Carlsbad use a standards-based curriculum which provides a comprehensive framework for the teaching and learning within each subject. For Math and Language Arts, the curriculum is known as the Common Core Standards. Other subjects use similarly designed frameworks that describe the targeted learning areas.

For instance, the Common Core Standards describe how the Language Arts coursework will cover reading of fiction and non-fiction texts, writing strategies, goals and processes, as well as other communication skills. The sub-topics of vocabulary development, reading comprehension and analysis, writing and revising are then detailed.
