Chalk Talk: How to Write a Good Essay
When an essay is assigned, there are many things to consider. First of all, the topic or theme must be considered. Then the audience. How can you interest your audience with the information you are bringing to them? Next think about structure. Typically you should introduce your topic in the first paragraph, then tell your audience what you want to convey in detail, and finally, in the last paragraph, you should summarize what you have told them and leave them with a good ending. When writing an essay, it can be helpful to write an outline first and then write the actual essay. This will help you stay on track. Once you’ve written a rough draft. Read through and edit it, keeping in mind the goal. Did you convey the main idea? Did you do it in a way that was understandable and relevant to the audience you are trying to reach? Finally, have another person or two read and give input on your essay. Once you have revised it, rest in the knowledge of a job well done.
