Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Central Falls District Curriculum
At the Robertson Elementary, students start their school career learning to develop respect for themselves and others. First grade students begin building fundamental math and literacy skills. In the second grade, field trips have been incorporated into the curriculum to help students to connect learned skills and concepts to real-life settings. The goal for third and fourth grade is to empower them to become learners for the entirety of their lives, appreciating and applying self-discipline and internal motivation.
The Calcutt Middle School serves students in the fifth through the eighth grades with the same standards-based level of education begun in primary school. Many resources have been developed to ensure that students meet or exceed grade level expectations. The programs that students can take advantage of include credit recovery opportunities, preparation for the Science portion of the NECAP exam, a summer learning program, an interactive literacy program, and interventions for reading, writing, and mathematics.

Chalk Talk: The School’s Website- A Great Resource
Most schools have websites that host information that is tailored to benefit students, parents, and the community. On this online resource, you may find the school calendar filled with upcoming events, the lunch menu, or announcements and interesting news items. Some districts allow teachers to post photographs, homework assignments, or classroom happenings. If you need to contact your teacher or another member of school personnel, there is often a directory with phone numbers or email addresses. Before a class starts, you may be able to view the curriculum online to see what the course will cover, what expectations you should have for your own learning, and what prior knowledge you will be expected to possess. The school website is an excellent tool. Why not explore the website for your school today?
