Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Chanhassen District Curriculum

The district is committed to implementing continuous progress in both math and reading by 2015, which means that students will be allowed to progress through the curriculum rather than being limited to their current placement. Eastern Caver Country Schools have an Elementary Program that teaches the core subjects: reading, writing, and math, all with a strong-research based curriculum. The lessons are embedded with critical thinking, creativity and flexible grouping to aid in the educational needs of every student.

Additionally, the school district offers a variety of college preparatory courses and a comprehensive curricula starting in middle school. Students in high school have the opportunity to enroll in elective classes pertaining to their personal interests such as Arts and Communications, Health and Social Sciences or Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

Eastern Carver County Schools requires its students to enroll in Capstone courses to challenge them beyond the standard curriculum. Capstone is a project that is centered around the students and they determine the focus and scope of the assignment. Students will learn to think analytically to solve programs of today and the future. Capstone projects also teach students independence, self-reliance and accountability even though they are supported by teachers, a career resource center, counselors, and outside mentors. Students are encouraged to explore their passion and choose from arts and communication, global studies, health /social sciences and STEM. Whether they opt to build something, compose a musical piece, or organize a cultural celebration, students will have hands on learning which will prepare them for a successful life after graduation.
