Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Cody District Curriculum

Students are expected to create, make applications, and be able to analyze all math concepts by the time they graduate high school. There are eight standards in math. These include: making sense of numbers, modeling, being exact, making educated conclusions, looking for and using patterns, using tools correctly, assessing others mathematically, and solving problems. These standards apply to K-12 graders. The focus in high school is mainly geometry, number and quantity, statistics and probability, functions, algebra, and modeling.

Listening, writing, language, reading and speaking are the core standards for language arts in Park County School District. By the end of 5th grade students are able to: identify the theme of a story, break down the meanings of words and phrases, evaluate points of view, assess an argument a story makes, understand and read challenging literature, compare texts with alike meanings, assess various meanings, understand, compare, contrast readings, understand how characters and events relate to each other, and be able to put what student reads in their own words.

Chalk Talk: How to Write a College Essay

One of the most important parts of the college entrance exam process is the college essay. There are several tips to ensure that you turn in a well-written essay to the college or colleges of your choice. Read the guidelines of the essay for each college, since requirements will be different for each college. Have several teachers and others who are skilled writers proof-read your essay. Talk to recent college students to get advice on what they wrote that helped them get into their college. Once you have done all this, go back and read the requirements again to make sure you included everything in your essay. Double check spelling, grammar, punctuation, and make sure your sentences make sense and the paragraphs flow together. Once you have done all this, you are ready to turn in your college essay.
