Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Corinth District Curriculum
The Social Studies curriculum of Corinth Schools helps students become with areas surrounding them. Young students begin by learning about the town and the people that help it to run smoothly. By the time they are through middle school, students are familiar with the people that it takes to run the state of Texas and the United States. This helps the students prepare for learning about the world and the different types of people that it takes to run the different types of governments world-wide.
Students of Corinth Schools begin the writing curriculum by learning how to create their letters and how to write from left to right. Then they begin how to state an idea and support it in a paragraph. Soon they learn about the different tools that authors use to state their point of view, and the different genres in literature and writing. By the time they are in high school students will have written and read a vast variety of works, including works of non-fiction. This prepares them to organize their ideas and write an essay that expresses their thoughts.

The schools in Corinth offer an innovated curriculum based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. It meets each of the student’s needs while it helps to motivate them. The TEKS lays out a detailed framework for learning in each subject, establishing yearly goals for students in acquiring knowledge and skills within topics central to the subject. Beyond the academic curriculum, learning goals are in place for students to prepare them in career fields, provide character education learning opportunities, and to raise awareness of local and national issues.

Chalk Talk: Things Teachers Want From Parents
Many educators have more things to do than they can possibly do in a day. Parents can help make their days a little easier so they can spend more one-on-one time with the children. One way to help both the teacher and the child is to take time to read to the child every day. By doing this, the child sees how important reading and education are to the parent and so reading will become more important to the child. Another way to help is to take time to get involved at the school. This may mean taking time to go to parent meetings, or volunteering in the child’s activities or the classroom. Finally, help the child to see the importance of learning every day. When shopping, ask the child to estimate how much the total will be or to count the change. When baking, invite the child to watch as they see fractions, following instruction and science come to life. Each of these items will show the child education in many different ways and are another of many ways that the child will see a connection between the parents and the school.
