Chalk Talk: Multiple Intelligences Theory: Spiritual/Existential Intelligence
The Multiple Intelligences Theory was developed by Professor Howard Gardner to help educators understand the different types of intelligence seen amongst students. The original seven types of intelligence include verbal/linguistic, mathematical/logical, spatial/visual, musical, kinesthetic, intrapersonal, and interpersonal. Spiritual/existential and naturalist were later added to the original list. Seen at the 9th intelligence, existential intelligence involves one’s ability to use values and intuition to understand the world and others. Those high with existential intelligence can be said to “see the big picture”. They may be keenly interested in questions involving life and death. Possible career choices include philosophers, theologians, life coaches, and scientists. Do you question the meaning of life and how we got here? Are you considered strong in existential intelligence? Take an MI quiz to see where your strengths lies!
