Eudora District and Curriculum

The district that serves Eudora’s students follows the Kansas College and Career Ready Standards as their curriculum. The standards focus in on the core learning that students need to do in each subject at each grade level. Students are also offered a plethora of extracurricular opportunities, ranging from sports and performing and visual arts, to music, and academic clubs. Community service is encouraged so that students who become engaged in their school and with their peers will also be engaged and active in their community when they are older. Engaged, active students are more likely to have success later in life in their careers and their lives.

We currently cover the following Eudora-area school district: Eudora Schools.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Eudora District Curriculum

The curriculum focuses on critical thinking and reading, analytical writing skills, science literacy, and problem solving skills. Students read a variety of different texts in various formats, original source material, and analysis. They read for comprehension and for author intent and form opinions from their reading. They then gather evidence to support those opinions so that they present informed, supported ideas rather than conjecture. Communication is highly valued not only in writing but in oral presentations, digital, and written forms so that students are able to communicate in varying ways.

The Math curriculum emphasizes the problem-solving techniques learned in student’s studies of numerical operations, algebraic relationships, geometry and measurement, and data analysis and statistics. Mathematical literacy, including the ability to understand word problems, is also emphasized. The ability to communicate mathematical reasoning and to perform mental math are also sought for goals. Other broad goals of the math curriculum include the ability to select the most appropriate computational tools and methods.

Chalk Talk: College Applications

There are many parts to a college application, and students will want to be sure to have time to prepare each part thoroughly. The application itself, of course, is important, though the essay, which is usually part of the application form, is the truly standout part. Students will want to work on the essay, giving it enough time to be reviewed by parents, teachers, guidance counselors, and even peers for feedback. Another important element of a college application is the transcript, and the most important element of that is course selection. College resumes, though not usually required, are also very useful. Colleges will sometimes only look at grades and scores from certain classes or tests, so, a college might ignore art credits when looking at a math major.
