Gig Harbor District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs
Peninsula School District aligns all of its curriculum and instruction around the Washington State Standards. The Standards lay out the progress that students will take from basic to advanced knowledge within each subject. The standards build on each other from grade to grade and the curriculum designed around the standards. Teachers use the curriculum to plan their lesson objectives and formal assessments to measure proficiency in core academic subjects are based directly on the grade-level expectations detailed within the curriculum.
Students start learning fundamental reading, writing, math, and science skills in kindergarten and continue to develop these skills throughout their elementary school curriculum. Literacy across the subject areas, problem-solving strategies, and elementary reasoning are introduced during these years. By the time the students are ready to leave elementary school and enter middle school, the curriculum and instruction provided by the district has given them a solid foundation for success. Students are also offered many opportunities to work on individual and group projects that allow exploration of a subject, the development of project planning skills, and serve as an authentic form of assessment.
We currently cover the following Gig Harbor-area school districts: Peninsula School District.

In middle school and high school, students continue to enhance their basic skills through electives and advanced classes. Students in middle school are able to take Algebra 1 and Geometry, which allows room for advanced math, through Calculus, in high school. Students also have the option of taking advanced Language Arts in both middle and high school. Biology in high school is required for graduation, but the other year of lab science required for graduation is of the student's choice.
