Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Grand Terrace District Curriculum

The curriculum in Language Arts details the communication and literacy skills which students will develop. The curriculum details the skills of vocabulary acquisition, understanding the structure of language, and the use of many strategies to read and write across content areas. Student learning in Math involves the strengthening of logical reasoning and problem-solving techniques. The topics start with numerical operations and encompass geometry, algebra, analysis of quantitative data, and advanced topics in math.

The science curriculum provides for student development of an understanding of the processes and principles of science along with the universal knowledge already known. This is accomplished through in-depth student of biology, chemistry, physics, and topics in environmental science and emerging technology.

  • Extracurriculars at CHS - The extracurricular offerings at Colton High School can provide a range of opportunities for students. Many clubs have an academic focus that will help prepare students for advanced studies, oher clubs offer students their first chance to participate in community outreach. All these opportunities bode well on college applications.
  • CollegeWeekLive - CollegeWeek is now a daily occurrence. CollegeWeekLive is a website developed that helps students find their place at the right college. It provides a resource for students to ask whatever questions they may have and to find useful information as they plan for college.
  • Two-Way Immersion - The district has developed a plan to introduce a two-way immersion language model into the K-6 years. Students begin in kindergarden receiveing a 90/10 instruction in English and Spanish and progress through the years whereby grade 4 instruction is 50/50 for both languages.
