Hammond District and Curriculum

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Hammond District Curriculum

School City of Hammond follows a special federally funded language program that meets the language needs of Hammond’s students. The program places emphasis on language acquisition and development, and other skills essential for functioning effectively in society and the work place. The schools bilingual instructors also provide services to migrant families and English Language Learners.

School City of Hammond follows the Mathematics curriculum that aims for students to be able to do, understand and apply mathematics, both inside and outside the classroom. The Science curriculum comprises a diverse range of topics that focus on developing fundamental knowledge of science. The teacher training programs and curriculum design are continually updated and are reflective of the school districts’ commitment towards promoting high levels of academic and personal achievement.

Keeping Informed: Recent Hammond Educational News

  • Alumni & Friends of Hammond Schools - Alumni & Friends of Hammond Schools organizes events for graduates and friends of Hammond Public Schools throughout the year. These events keep up the camaraderie of alumni and provide updates about what is going on in the district. The organization plans social and fundraising events, outreach activities that promote students and schools, and an annual Success Day at each School City of Hammond high school. Furthermore, the organization seeks to be a liaison to class reunion committees.
  • Boys & Girls of NWI Program - Making the Grade is an educational program run by the Boys & Girls Clubs of North West, Indiana, to help students ages 9 to 15 with educational skills including using the dictionary, writing legible handwriting and reading comprehension. Horizon Bank helps fund the program for Hammond and will continue the program through 2016. The program emphasizes good grades and positively impacts the students' future.
  • Hammond's Food Program - School City of Hammond offers a food program through which it provides free and reduced-priced meals under the Child and Adult Care Food Program. Meals are available to eligible participants at specific schools. The school also provides specific criteria for income levels per member of household for participants to be eligible.
