Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Highlands Ranch District Curriculum
In Language Arts, students learn how to read and write for various creative and informational reasons, and also learn how to discuss different genres and ideas. Students learn how to paraphrase, explain, justify, and synthesize information in a manner that promotes discussion and facilitates development of new ideas. When listening to a speaker, students learn how to engage in active listening strategies. Students also learn how to evaluate others’ viewpoints and examine the rationale that speakers use as being sound or unsound.
High school students also have access to off campus courses in arts and communications; business, management, marketing, and technology; health sciences; engineering/manufacturing and industrial technology; human services; and natural resources and agriscience. High schools offers students Advanced Placement (AP) courses, dual enrollment options, access to the Capital Area Career Center, and distance learning for courses not offered in the schools.

My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!

Chalk Talk: Considerations for Young Learners
A student's success in the classroom is based on many factors including both social and intellectual factors. Supporting a child's learning at home, therefore, can consist of much more than helping with homework or reading often with the child. Parents can emphasize the ways in which certain qualities will help a student throughout life. For instance, can the child follow directions? Is he or she socially appropriate? Can he or she perform basic skills required of their teachers? Judging whether a child has the skills for success, may be contingent on school factors. There are also questions to be asked about the learning environment and how that will work for the child. Find out whether the learning environment is formal or less traditional. Class size, screening procedures, and curriculum are all important factors. With these various thoughts in mind, advocating and supporting the best education for a child can be very a successful and positive experience.
