Hillsdale District and Curriculum

Three public school districts serve the students of Hillsdale, New Jersey. Students in pre-kindergarten through the eighth grade attend the Hillsdale Public Schools. Students in ninth through twelfth grade attend Pascack Valley High School or they can also apply to attend the Bergen County Technical Schools. Regardless of which district students attend they receive a comprehensive, standards-based education that prepares them for life and work in the modern world. Students acquire academic knowledge and skills, but they also grow emotionally and socially and gain an understanding of what it means to be a responsible and productive citizen.

We currently cover the following Hillsdale-area school districts: Hillsdale Public Schools, Pascack Valley High School, and Bergen County Technical Schools.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Hillsdale District Curriculum

Because students in Hillsdale attend various districts, those districts work together to ensure that a sound K-12 curriculum is in place. Each district strives to develop challenging curricula that produce knowledgeable, skilled and well-rounded students. To ensure students receive an equitable education, all three local districts align their curricula to the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards and the Common Core State Standards for math and language arts.

The math curriculum includes a comprehensive study of the number system. In elementary school, children develop a foundational understanding of numbers and operations in base ten and fraction form. Middle school students continue to work with the number system, particularly with fractions. Students learn how to multiply and divide fractions, as well as how to convert a rational number to a decimal using long division. The high school curriculum focuses student learning on the real number system and complex number system. Students learn how to use the properties of rational and irrational numbers to solve problems.

Art students also acquire an improved work ethic, with a higher ability to concentrate, greater patience and improved ability to set goals. All in all, studying art is a great creative outlet, but it also facilitates improved academic performance across the board.
