Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Hobbs District Curriculum

The Hobbs Municipal School District is implementing the Common Core Standards that have been approved by the State of New Mexico as educational standards for public schools. The standards help to ensure that no matter which school a student attends that the core curriculum will be the same. The District also employs the use of the Core Knowledge program which provides a back to basics approach to education. Core subjects include Mathematics, Science, Language Arts, Social Studies and Music.

Understanding technology is also a major part of the school curriculum as it prepares students for the 21st century. In English & Language Arts, students focus on learning on how to read, write, listen and speak with critical thought. Students learn the skills of critical analysis and become familiar with both informational text and literature. In Mathematics, students focus on learning basis core skills including computation, algebra, geometry, probability, measurement and statistics.
