Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Hollywood District Curriculum
Science in Broward County Public Schools is simply the study of the physical world that surrounds the students. They learn how to methodically investigate natural processes. The data which they gather is then assimilated into a meaningful understanding of their surroundings.
Broward County Public Schools views reading as the most important subject to master. Once students have learned to read well, they can then move on to writing and other content areas. For students that are not reading at grade level, there is a variety of interventions to help them achieve success in this vital area of education. In the upper grades, students explore the different genres of literature and master different types of writing.
In addition to the subjects of Math, Science, and Reading/Language Arts, Broward County Public Schools offers students the opportunity to explore Art, JROTC, Music, Health and Physical Education, Student Enrichment in the Arts (SEAS), Social Studies, and World Languages.

The Broward County Core Curriculum is a spiral curriculum; this means that each year students are able to review what they have already learned and take that knowledge to the next level. The focus of the core curriculum is communication, information, technology, numeracy, and social skills. The Next Generation Sunshine State Standards are the foundation for the Broward County Core Curriculum in Math. The curriculum is based upon the latest methods of instruction and content delivery.
