Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Huron District Curriculum
In Reading and Mathematics, beginning within the elementary grades, students are taught the skills necessary to think critically self-assess their work, work with peers by collaborating, and to use discovery methods to make predictions, and analyze what they have learned. In Reading, the pupils are immersed in many types of text where comprehension skills and a variety of strategies are taught to develop their reading abilities. Writing is taught in conjunction with reading so that students have a basis to develop analytic and interpretive thinking.
In Math, the students are engrossed in an array of mathematical language, procedures, and concepts, and they are instructed on the many techniques needed to solve problems and to apply the math to real world situations. Throughout their school years, topics within geometry, data analysis, and algebraic thinking are taught so that by high school students can take full-year courses in these areas and develop an in-depth understanding of the principles and functions of Math.

Chalk Talk: The Role of the Primary ESL Teacher

They are an invaluable resource. This staff member also helps the families with becoming acclimated to the country (and area). The ESL teacher provides accommodations during classwork or testing for those who do not know the language, and the classroom teacher is made aware of these accommodations.
